Question:

Cats adjusting to new home, new rules and new baby?

We just moved into a new home and had a baby (all within the past two weeks!) We have three cats and since our move and new addition to the family, the rules have changed for the cats. We don't want them on the furniture anymore. So that just leaves them with the floor. I feel so bad for them! The really want to just lie on the bed and take cat naps like they used to.

We've thought about getting a kitty condo or two but have had bad luck with them. Our cats seem to be too big and just knock them over.

Does anyone have any ideas?

  1. Well, since they aren't allowed on furniture, I say to try looking for a cat bed.  They aren't too expensive...I have them for my cats and they are always taking cat naps in them.  You can find them at almost any store with a "pet" section.

  2. Try and give your cats a dedicated area maybe a specific chair or piece of furniture. Then using lots of treats and praise encourage your cats to this area, they will then get the idea that it is their place and will hopefully leave the other areas alone. I think your cats really do need an area as it's a big adjustment to go from being allowed on anything to be not allowed.

Also with the new baby they may be feeling quite put out, after all who is this little person who takes all the attention and screams!

I've got a range of cat activity centres / kondos and my latest addition seems to be quite popular. I own a rather large persian so am very conscious that they are sturdy as she would easily pull it over. There's a picture of it on this web page.

    Hope it all goes well
