Cats-collar or no collar?

i have 2 year old kittens,a "sia-mix" and a maine coon mix.both microchipped.they dont go outside, but they have an enclosed, roomy sunporch, which is under trees and as close to being outside as possible.(we live next to a busy road.)should i get collars in case they (god forbid!)accidentally get outside someday?or not get collars, because there are places in the house the collars might get stuck?i worry even if theyre "safety collars."some people might not think to check a loose cat for a microchip,so the collars may be a good idea, but im afraid they will strangle on their climbing trees(those big fake trees from petco) while we're at work?any thoughts/opinions?

  1. I would personally not put collars on them! Although it might be the best idea if you get collars always check the extra amount around thier neck is'nt too loose? If too much room they could get caught on something Just being extra cautious!!

  2. give them collars, one of my cats just ran away, with a collar on, but then we found the collar a couple of days later, we hadnt yet got her microchipped, so we dont know where she is!

People cant see a microchip, but they can see a collar!

  3. Don't get them collars.  They could get hung up on something and strangled.  Get them microchipped instead.  Should your cats get out and picked up by animal control they'll be scanned, your info will be revealed and you'll be contacted.  A collar can also fall off or be taken off by someone and then you have no way to prove ownership of your cat.

  4. get a breakaway collar it will snap off of them if it gets caught on something.

  5. My 2 are chipped, indoor cats & don't wear collars. Chips are more common now, & that's the first thing a shelter or vet will check for. I wouldn't bother but it's up to you.

  6. Cats are very clever. They are not likely to strangle themselves on anything with the collar.

The best thing to do if you want to have collars on is get an all elastic collar. It is ALL elastic, not just a small section. This is best as it will easily just slip of if the cat should get caught. They are very safe. I have never had a problem with them with my cats. Cats can wriggle out of just about anything so dont worry.

The only trouble I have had is the fact that the cat just does not like it. They scratch at it, etc, etc.

If you want a collar for them get an elastic one. If you do not want a collar, get you cats microchipped.

Hope this has helped you out a little, Jane.

  7. Yes get collars made. If they get lost then people wont take them but if they don't people will take them. That is what happened to me. My cat got out with no collar and never came back{-( Go over to Petco and get ones made that have your phone number and address on it so that they can call you and let you know if they found your cat. If you don't have one that has that info they wont be able to contact you. Hope this helped{-)

  8. i think just in case they ever do escape you should get them collars. i am having a collar dilemma with my cat right now, because safecat collars always stretch out and come off of him! anyways i think it's great to micro chip your pets, but unfortunatley most people just check to see if a dog is micro chipped and not cats. i don't think you need id tags because people will know they have a home, but just to be extra safe you might want to get them some tags with your info.

  9. if your cat ever gets lost it will be easier to track w/a collar, unless you want to implant your cat w/a chip.(not kidding)-blurey

  10. i have had a collar for my cat her whole life!! i attached her info tag and her rabies vac tag on it ive never had any issues with them they get so use to them they just 4get there on
