Question:

Cats fighting or playing?

My parents recently gave me their cat, due to the fact he does not get along with their new puppy. I have a 3 year old male neutered front declawed cat. They seem to tolerate each other, but sometimes they attack eachother (it kinda looks like they are slapping each other). My cat, Mowgli, will sometimes run after Snoopy and bite him in the back. His ears go back and he looks po'd. I don't know if this is normal behavior. Mowgli has been king of the castle since he was born (his mom was run over a day after he was born, so we have raised him since then)

  1. The easiest way to tell is this--

    Is there screaming?

Is there fur on the floor?

If neither one of these is happening, then it's either play or just checking out the pecking order in the household.

  2. I'd say normal behavior, but text alone cannot tell. You can tr to them them to like each other by putting wet cat food on both of them. If you're lucky, they'll start to l**k each other, and they'll be better friends from there on out. It made my inside-cat and my outside-cat much fore friendly.

  3. My cats do this too. In fact they are fighting right now.  They are brother and sister and have lived together their whole life. It is like one of them has to show the other which is boss. The male even mounts the female in the mating pose even though both of them are fixed. He grabs her by the back of the neck but sometimes she comes along and bites him on the front of the neck and runs off and wants him to follow her and the wrestle on the floor.  They also love hiding behind a curtain or under a towel and pop out at the other and attack them.  Anyway I was worried about this at first but the vet says it is all normal. He said even two males will do this mounting behavior to show who is the boss.

  4.

it is normal they will probably do it off and on forevever

  5. Probably neither.  It sounds like they're arguing over dominance.  My oldest boy and my girl do that junk too.  They frequently don't like each other but don't hurt each other either.

Most of the time they seem to agree to disagree and will sometimes nap together and l**k each other.

IMO, as long as no one is getting hurt I wouldn't worry.  They need to work things out between each other.  But if they do start to hurt each other they'll need to be separated.

  6. playing.  Mine will hiss and yell too.  Its effin hilarious to watch

  7. well is ur parents cat a male,if it is then they r fighting 4 dominance

  8. Yes this is very normal behavior. Cats are dogs natural enemys, if your cat attacks your dog simply spray a mist of water if your dog attacks your cat roll  up a news paper and tap it..Its more of the "King of the house"
