Question:

Cats knead pillow...

My daughter has a pillow. I have 4 cats (3 neutered males, 1 spayed female). 2 of the males will knead this pillow and hiss while doing it. They do not display any other aggressive behaviors. But I think it is strange they have chosen this one pillow (despite the fact that I have 2 other sleeping pillows and 2 other decorative pillows) to exhibit this behavior with. They begin by kneading it with their front paws and then they hiss while doing it. They don't do this with anything else. Why do they hiss while kneading the pillow and why this 1 pillow and nothing else?

  1. All of my cats knead. It means they are content and happy. Also the kneading deposits their scent on the objects. The scents do fade after a while.  Since you don't want to stop the behavior, to preserve the pillow put it up where they cant reach it and try replacing it with something similar that is washable.

  2. they are sexually stimulated by pheromones on the pillow, and they are re occuring to this pillow because of their own scent drawing them back to the same pillow. wash the pillow slip and then spray the pillow with pet odor neutralizing spray, if this does not work then throw it away.

  3. it might be because it like the smell of your daughter's shampoo and that is sorta their natural behavior

  4. I have a cat that does this.  He actually gets aroused, even though he's neutered.  He also tries to bite if you try to shoo him way.  The vet laughed, then gave him a prescription for a very mild tranquilizer when he does this - after a while, he did it less and less.

  5. One of my cats waits till I'm sleeping and will climb to the top of my pillow and knead my head (Ow!) while drooling!
