I have two cats roughly ones 9 months(Sushi) and ones 8 months(Miso), we got the edlest before the youngest and thats their sort of pecking order.. at night they lie together and sushi will l**k and groom miso but eventually she will end up biting and holding on to her neck (she's not hurting her) but whats the reason behind this? also why does the older one l**k the younger one?

  1. Older cats often 'adopt' a newcomer to the household. Esther has done this to my younger cat. The grooming is part affection, part dominance. It tells the younger cat that the older is in charge, but likes the younger one. The exchange will, from time to time, end up as you describe and that is quite normal. It is a more overt indication of dominance. If she did it and held on while Miso yelled, then you might have a problem. But from what you describe they are behaving normally for younger cats. I hope they have been neutered by now as that might make a big difference to their behaviour towards each other if they were entire.

  2. Take it to the pound and get a new one.

  3. I love the names!

You are correct about "pecking" order. They're completely normal and getting along fine. They're just loving on each other and playing with each other. The older one is showing the younger who is boss.

  4. Well, thats perfectly alright.Don't worry at all.Soon you will see they will stop all his and begin playing like good friends not bothering about age.
