Cats now hate other cat since groomed?

We have had Oreo for a good ten years, and about six years ago we got three newborn kittens and raised them, so all of the cats get along just fine. Oreo is a long haired cat and is too big to groom himself so his fur gets extremely matted and nasty. We went and got him groomed, and they shaved his fur off and bathed him a few times. Now the other cats act like he's a stranger and have attacked him a few times and hiss at him and just stare at him. We tried rubbing his old fur on him (the groomers said this might work) but now they just look at him and freak out. What do we do?

  1. Wait it out.  He'll eventually smell like himself again.  Been there, done that.

  2. Oreo now has another scent on him, which will probably take a few days to wear off.  The other cats can smell the new scent, which makes them more hostile.  My cats do the same thing when I take one to the vet, but not the others.  They will be alright after a few days.  I would leave them alone and not worry about it.

  3. Hey I use to have an Oreo!

he just smells differnt... once he has his old smell back it will be ok.

I usually tell the groomer not to put fragrance on my cats.  that way once they have licked all thier fur again they are back to their old smell!

    good luck >^..^<
