I got caught for speeding earlier for doing 40 ion a 30 and It was by a gatso. See, now I thought gatso's couldn't flash you from the front but this one did. Is there anything I can do to not get the points. the fine is ok(ish) but the point is gonna cost me about 500 quid (insurnace)

I have heard of people doing safety courses and not getting points. Has anyone got any infomation please?

Thanks

p.s. Ok I know if I was speeding when I shouldn't have been I deserve it but I could really do without people telling me that and rubbing it in. Thanks

  1. Fill in form they send you admitting offence but don't sign it.

The courts will not deal with it unless it is signed, that is the law.

The police have no powers to force you to sign it either.

    Catch 22.

The police will send out a copy of the form to you saying you will be procecuted if not signed but it's a bluff.

I have done this 5 times and had no bother.

  2. You wont even get the option of doing a course that is only for people who are a couple of mph over the limit not 10.

I know you dont want people rubbing it in but 'that'll teach you' ha, ha, ha.

  3. Have you considered a speed camera alerter?

Snooper do a good range, I have used them for years, first an S4NEO and now a STRABO, which is a GPS device and is also a SatNav. It has all the fixed cameras and likely spots for mobile units in a database which is updated whenever a new unit is installed. They reckon to have newly installed units on the database within 3 hours. You update your unit over the internet whenever you want to. I do mine once a week or before I go on a journey.

It won't help your current situation, but may well stop the 3 points becoming 6 or more in the future.

  4. If you hit me at 40 miles per hour there and 80% chance I'll die.

If you hit me at 30 miles per hour theres an 80% chance I'll live.

We've all done it love but that advert stopped me in my tracks. I've got kids.

And no there's nothing you can do its 3 points. Sorry.

500 quids a bargain if it saves a childs life.

  5. If the camera flashed you head on then you wont hear anything from the police, the gatso camera is designed  to take pictures  of traffic as it heads away from it. because you were speeding  towards it it still registers  and will flash you automatically.

  6. read your highway code

  7. So you are saying the cop was in front of you going down the road and you were following behind him and he turned on his lights and pulled you over ? Then if this is the case he was speeding also to know that you were going as fast as he was, and unless he was in pursuit or going to a call he should be cited too for disobeying the speed.

  8. You got caught.  We live in a country where the police enforce things in an unbending way.  Im sure that a warning would be enough, with a promise that if you are caught again you will suffer penalties for both offences.  However, this will not happen with motoring offences.  Now if you had commited theft or assault you could be given a suspended sentence.  Some justice system - it's rubbish.  I had a small accident and paid several times - points on my licence, a fine, my insurance went up, I lost my no claims bonus,  Nobody was hurt, I was fully insured and the other party suffered no loss.  I could have commited many crimes and been given a suspended sentence or a few hours community service but no I am a motorist and an easy target.  I don't think you should speed though.  I think the speed limit shoud be reduced in built up residential areas to 20mph.  Motorways should has their limits raised though.

  9. well you could go to driveing school and have them take the points off you record

  10. No way out

    that is the deterrent

(buy a sat nav, need not program a destination, get the speed cams on, it will warn you, mine is tom tom one, cheaper than losing licence, got latest maps and cams at local repair shop)

And for goodness sake, SLOW down

  11. If it's a conventional gatso, it would have been flashing someone going the other way.  Some (but very few) cameras work head-on but it would be different in appearance. I think you may be lucky.

  12. It's thirty for a reason.

Yeh what cr_p,  all the speed limits around the countryside where I live have been reduced from 40 to 30 because the local council is paranoid not because there is any rational reason for it.  Even where there is no risk ie no pedestrians, no junctions, nothing, it's insane to says its for a reason.  It is not.

  13. They only offer safety courses if the police actually catch you and your in a district which offers that. They send you to a speed awareness course instead, i think doing a 40 in a 30 is above the limit in which they offer that anyway. Its only if you are just a few miles over, they give you the benefit of the doubt by offering a course.

If there is a speed camera sign with the speed limit next to it and perfectly visible in all conditions then your stuffed.

Depending on how you want to play it, insurance companies don't always check how many points you actually have on your licence but if you crash they won't pay out if they find out any errors.

  14. 40 in a 30? you deserve everything you get

If you dont want points, dont speed or is that too complicated for you?

  15. my son was caught speeding and luckly they offered him the speeding course, but he was only 5 miles over the limit, which is enough i know,  you may be lucky and they offer you this also, if not ring or write to them asking if there is a possibility you would be able to do the course

  16. Pay the ticket off and it won't go against you right now, however if you get another soon it will show up on your DMVR just be careful . hope this helps.

  17. Ask at the local Police station for guidance on this.

    And sorry but....

Dont speed especially in built up areas, its 30 for a reason

  18. We can't tell you because we don't know where it happened. Different police forces and/or courts have different views on it - there's no national policy.

  19. You sound really contrite and deserve some sympathy. You are prepared to pay the fine, but you refer to doing a safety course to see if that will help you avoid the points. That's laudable but it is not possible. One's mind goes back to the advice given to someone like you (on another site, and not to be recommended, naturally):

"the easiest way to avoid points and this has worked for a friend of mine is pay the fine by post but pay it by a cheque write the cheque for one pound more than the actual fine and when they send back the one pound cheque reimboursement throw it away, the points cannot go onto your licence until the money transaction has gone through."

You could escape on a technicality, but if you do, try not to speed again.

  20. You should be put off the road!

  21. OK you know you have done it as most of us do. you've  done the crime now pay the fine

  22. hmm you coulda killed someone at that speed ... i have no sympathy

if you were late or whatever set off sooner

  23. Seems to me that there was a fault with the gatso. It happened to me in Ireland and I didn't receive  a fine. Anyway a gatso flashing you face on could be deemed dangerous!

    Good Luck
