Tottenham Hotspur defender Steven Caulker was delighted to have opened the scoring as Spurs went on to beat Aston Villa 2-0 yesterday at White Hart Lane.
The defender admitted that he was lucky to have scored the first goal of the night, but was delighted nonetheless to have opened his account for Tottenham.
Caulker knew little about the goal, as it was initially a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Guzan-c7954 stranded as Tottenham took the lead in the second half.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aaron-Lennon-c3062 scored the second goal of the night as Spurs grabbed their fourth consecutive victory in the Premier League. Speaking to the press after the game, Caulker said:
"It will go down as a lucky goal but it's my first Premier League goal and my first for Spurs, so I'm delighted with that and the win."
Villa posed many problems for Spurs, but the in-form team defended solidly and held on to grab all three points. Spurs had looked defensively weak at some moments, but dominated the majority of the game and played some of their best football of the season
so far.
"Especially in the first half, I think they caused us a few problems," added Caulker. “They are a good side and we were up against it. But we played well and I think the better team won. The team is doing fantastically well. I'm confident we can continue
on this good run."
A surprise inclusion in the Spurs squad was high-profile summer signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 who made his first Premier League start. The goalkeeper had been restricted to the bench ever since he joined the club, and had only made two starts in the Europa League.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas ended first choice goalkeeper Brad Friedel’s run of consecutive 310 starts in the Premier League by giving Lloris his league debut.
The goalkeeper did not have much to do, and was impressive as he kept a clean sheet and made decent saves in the second half.
Tottenham are now on a run of 7 games undefeated in all competitions, and Villas-Boas will be pleased to have maintained the momentum. Tottenham take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 once the Premier League resumes after this month’s international break.
