Tottenham Hotspur defender Steven Caulker has praised summer signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-c16384 Lloris’ attitude and patience as the Frenchman found himself restricted to the bench since he moved to White Hart Lane.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international skipper had made a £12 million pound move to White Hart Lane on deadline day, but was only just handed his first ever Premier League start in the 2-0 victory over Aston Villa this past weekend.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Friedel-c7953, current club number 1, had been so impressive and consistent in front of goal that he restricted Lloris to the bench. The French goalkeeper had to make do with 2 starts in the Europa League as Friedel was chosen over him.
However, Lloris had displayed his quality as a goalkeeper, and was rewarded with a Premier League debut on Sunday. The decision shocked many as manager Andre Villas-Boas was understood to prefer Friedel over Lloris.
This decision had ended Friedel’s impressive run of 310 consecutive starts in the Premier League. However, Lloris vindicated his manager as he kept a clean sheet and Spurs cruised to a 2-0 victory.
Steven Caulker, who himself recently made the step up to the first team, hailed Lloris’ attitude and explained how the Frenchman remained ‘humble’ as he bided his time on the bench. He said:
"He’s been very humble, he’s been a good character amongst the boys. He’s had to be patient as well with Brad playing fantastically well, so the gaffer gave him the nod for his first Premier League start and he did really well.”
"Hugo’s learning English and he’s coming along really well. He made a fantastic save [from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gabriel-Agbonlahor-c14288] when they had a one on one and he’s really proving his worth.
“My French isn’t great but the communication was fine. He understands the English that he needs to know and he was very vocal."
Caulker has been a revelation for Spurs ever since he was thrust into the first team due to an injury to first choice centre-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Younes-Kaboul-c37543. The player spent last season on loan at Swansea City, but has returned with experience and confidence as he pairs
alongside captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/William-Gallas-c36874 in the Tottenham back four.
