The causes of increasing oil prices are legion. Among them are increased demand by third world nations, speculation on Wall street and the refusal of leftists in Washington DC to allow drilling where known oil reservoirs exist.

To save money on oil related products, including gasoline, simply live within your means. If you don't have the money, then don't drive cross country on summer break. Just use common sense. You can turn the light out if you aren't reading, put on a sweater instead of cranking up the thermostat, resolve to make a single trip in the car and run multiple errands rather than multiple trips on multiple occasions.

Things most people who live on a budget have been doing all along, incidentally.

It depends with your situation right now.

If you are living in an area where public transport is widely available and convenient i would suggest you to take public transport. That is much cheaper (no parking fees, petrol,etc) and even better than using other alternative fuels.

If you must drive maybe you should try to convert your engine to accept alternative fuel. Or you could ask your company to provide you fuel incentive :)
