  1. Hm... lack of 'human's right' could be one of the main factors. According to the report, ZYM said he worked in USA before, he said the people only work 4.5 days per week, and 2 tea breaks per day (+ lunch time etc) - part of human's right, and you are not allowed to give negative feedback / comments (human's right too), if people get sick / tired, you have to let them go...

Whereas, in this Olympic in China, thousands of people had to practice on the spot for more than 6 hours continuously, day and / or nights ! Most of the time, they even had to travel a long way to do the practises, or to sleep in a not so good environment... How could this be achieved in very-humans-rights country ?? for thousands of people at once ?? (People from very-human-rights countries love to complaint !).

Secondly, the biggest resources in china is : people. So, to get thousands of performers, and volunteers is sort of easier.

Not saying that without human's right is great, but, just the it 'helps' in certain situation.

  2. To the Chinese, hosting the Olympics is of great national importance as it has been a Chinese dream for almost a century. Finally as the opportunity came in 2001, they saw it as a chance for them to show the world, especially the West their rich culture and economic development. Which is why so much resources and national effort is devoted to host it to the best of their ability and make it the most memorable to make sure people remember their progress. To them it is for national, cultural pride which explains for its massive scale of mobilization, budget as well as involvement of the grassroots.

For other countries, they might not have a strong enough incentive as the Chinese in terms of mass support and will of their people. Which other country is economically strong enough to cough up $40 billion for the Olympics and not look back? With the exception China, there is none right now.

To them the Olympics is not just for cultural pride, it is the justification of their economic success. It wasn't solely the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. It was also a tremendous advertisement for China as they emerge as a new world power.
