Does anyone know of a reputable breeder in the North West area of England?. I already have one Cavalier, but would like to add another to the family.

  1. Get a Labrador or Westie.

  2. No, they are inbred...I dont think you should get another one. Didnt you watch the programme about them? they are susceptible to brain disease.

  3. I don't personally, but I suggest you contact either the Kennel Club (if you want a certificated dog) or ask your vet if they know of a reputable breeder .... good breeders will always have a good relationship with a vet .....

  4. Do not contact the breed club, they were recently exposed for allowing and defending a top ckcs breeder who breeds from a dog with syringomyelia (a life treatening hereditary disease) unfortunately there are many out there like her. Finding a good breeder is a minefield, avoid puppy farmers, pets shops and show breeders.

  5. i agree with going through The Cavalier Club as they are trying to do all they can to get rid of SM.

once you have found a breeder make sure you see the reports of the SM scan from BOTH of the parents, only buy a puppy if the dam is over 3 (because a full report on the results of a MRI for SM can only be done on dogs over 3) scans can still be done befor a dog is 3 but the results may be inconclusive, and is most accurate with dogs over 3.

please look up Syringomielia or view the Cavalier Club web page for more information.

this is very important in the first steps of weeding out the dogs with SM or SM in the line being bred from, which is still happening.

if you know nothing on this i will briefly say its a very painful (the worst pain) condition, where the skull is too small for the brain, and its distressing so as a cavalier lover you know how important it is that this breed is saved, and you can help simply by only buying a puppy with SM tested parents!

also consider adopting an unwanted cavalier through the CC,

  6. SarahJane1307, I haven't had any problems with my king charles spaniel.

  7. This should answer most of your questions:

    http://www.thecavalierclub.co.uk/start.h...

One of the breed clubs should be able to put you in touch with reputable breeders with healthy pups.

    Edit:

Oh, silly me. Obviously, I should have suggested you buy a puppy from someone who breeds their pet Cav to their neighbour's pet Cav. and wouldn't have a clue about the history of their breeding, any health problems they may have or even how sound they are.

The advice given by Breed Clubs is really silly - such as:

"ALWAYS BUY FROM A REPUTABLE BREEDER.

    ASK TO SEE THE MOTHER

    AND ALSO ASK TO SEE

    HER HEART AND EYE CERTIFICATES.

ALL REPUTABLE BREEDERS WILL BE ABLE TO PRODUCE THESE

CERTIFICATES , AND WILL BE ONLY TOO PLEASED TO SHOW YOU."

The damage done by instant experts who think they know all about breeding because they watched an hour-long "expose"  is frightening, Personally, I would not buy a puppy of any breed from anyone who was not a member of a breed club. How else do breeders stay abreast of health issues in the breed, of which lines stay healthy and which lines to avoid.

  8. Google Champdogs UK and go into Dog Breeds  Scroll down and.  You will see a very long list of King Charles Cavalier Breeders all over the country.

Just be sure you do your homework and research the pedigrees in view of the recent bad press KC Cavaliers have had.

Hope you find what you are looking for,
