Question:

Cavalier stick shift problem! Help!?

My 02 Cavalier is having intermittent problems shifting into gear. The first time it happened was about a month ago, I started the car & took all my strength to get the shifter into gear...all 5 of them. I took it to a transmission place & it STOPPED doing it as soon as I pulled in the driveway of the place (go figure). The guy there still took a look at it & couldn't find anything obviously wrong with it. The clutch fluid was a little low, but that was it & he topped it off (it's still full today).

So, it hadn't done it again since until today & it started doing the exact same thing again. It's not "fixing" itself as it did before. What could be the problem!?

  1. It sounds like to me that the clutch master cylinder is leaking.  I initially thought maybe the transmission synchronizers were worn down but if it is doing it in all five gears it's probably because the cluch is still partially engaged.  Just my guess though.

  2. does it change gear easy once ur driving.. and ur sure its still got clutch fluid if yes then you rather have shyite in the fluid or a air~lock or a small leak look & follow the pipes coming from the cylinder and look for new shinny oil also try this open the cap where u put the fluid start the car and pump the clutch up &down &try to put her in gear see what happens remember to put cap back onn and make sure u do it with no other cars in front of u so if it does go in and u cant get it back out u will not bang into said cars..hope this helps try and see then post again i`ll take a look tommoro
