Cavaliers cap off pre-season with win over Bucks
Recap
The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Milwaukee Bucks concluded their preseason in a surprisingly close game Thursday night. Ramon Sessions lead the Cavaliers to an 83-77 victory with 26 points while Anthony Parker added 18 of his own.
Sessions who averaged 14.3 points this pre-season played over 37 minutes and shot 10-19 from the field and 6-6 in free throws.
The veteran forward-guard Parker averaged only 7.3 points this pre-season but has consistently improved the past few games scoring more points in yesterday’s game than in the previous two combined.
On the Bucks’ side, Chris Douglas-Roberts was the lead scorer with 16 points and forward Drew Gooden had a good night adding 11 points with six rebounds and three blocks. Gooden who is a former Cavalier having played with Cleveland from 2004 to 2008 was
also the top performer for the bucks.
The Cavaliers led 42-40 after the first half but trailed the Bucks for much of the fourth quarter. The Cavaliers were able to claw back into the game thanks to Bucks turnovers and a 25-14 point run late in the quarter.
Both Cleveland forwards Antawn Jamison and Anderson Varejao were back on the court last night for the second straight game. Jamison suffered from a knee injury while Varejao had sprained his ankle playing for Brazil in the FIBA World Championship last summer.
It appears from their play that both have not fully recovered from their injuries. Jamison had a poor performance last night only registering seven points and shooting 3-12 from the field and 1-7 from three point range. Varejao followed suit with six points
but only attempted four shots from the field during 34 minutes of playing time.
Cavaliers’ head coach Byron Scott spoke about Jamison’s play after the game saying, "I thought he looked good conditioning-wise. His timing is still off. Being out there on the floor in the next four or five days (for practice), I'm sure that timing will
come back and he'll have a good rhythm going into the season."
Daniel Gibson of the Cavaliers who suffered from a neck injury on 21 October did not play last night. Gibson neck injury appears to be a minor aggravation but it remains unknown whether he will be playing in the Cavaliers’ season opener against the Celtics
next Wednesday. The Bucks open their season against the Minnesota Timberwolves this Friday.
