  1. Caveman is a misnomer.  Most who lived during the stone age did not actually live in caves but in various settings, throughout Africa, the Levant, Europe, etc..  The idea of the caveman came from the discovery of cro-magnom man in France and has been attributed to all stone age peoples in the popular media.

  3. The stone age occured at different times in different places.  And the dwelling places of stone age peoples depended upon their environment.  Stone age represents a level of technological development where technology consisted of stone and wooden tools, prior to the use of metals (bronze age, iron age).  When Europeans encountered American and African tribal peoples, most of them were stone age tribes.  In places where there were caves, people lived in caves.  In places where there were no caves, people made huts of plant materials, or adobe or mud.
