‘Cavendish has to leave Team Sky’ Rolf Aldag
Rolf Aldag has hinted that he will pretty soon be working with his former rider Mark Cavendish at Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step.
Cavendish has worked under Aldag in his former side, Team HTC-High Road through 2006-2011.
Rolf has also suggested that, it is better for the Manxman to leave Team Sky after the cyclist made the announcement following the Tour de France disappointment.
"It's clear that Cavendish has to leave Team Sky," Aldag told Cyclingnews.
"In theory he has a contract for 2013 and 2014 but I can't see how he can stay because it was Brailsford and Wiggins who both said he should look for another team”.
“Sky wants to go for a second Tour de France win and so it's possible that Cav's programme would only include the Giro and the Vuelta; he would angry about that".
"I don’t think Cav would even have to pay a fee to leave. He didn’t ask to leave, it was the team that suggested it first".
Mark was keen to defend his green jersey at the French Grand Tour this year but the British team was too busy supporting Bradley Wiggins and Christopher Froome for an overall victory.
Defending the Tour de France green jersey was Cavendish’s major goal of the 2012 season and the lack of support by Team Sky cost him the point classifications.
Mark could not secure any better than the fourth overall spot after the final point’s classifications at the race with a total number of 220 points under his belt.
Peter Sagan of Team Liquigas-Cannondale claimed the green jersey with as many as 421 UCI points to his name.
The Slovakian rode exceptionally well throughout the three-week race and also managed to succeed during the first, third and the sixth stages of the race.
Andre Greipel of Team Lotto Belisol and Matthew Harley Goss of Team Orica GreenEdge achieved the second and the third positions with 280 and 268 points in the respective order.
The 27-year-old is still under contract with Team Sky for two more years and is negotiating with David Brailsford for an early release.
It has also been reported by Gazet that Team Sky is willing to trade the British cyclist Andrew Finn for Cavendish plus a financial statement.
Fenn has been really impressive during his opening season with Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step and is still employed by the team until 2014.
