Caving suggestions for beginners?

i have recently begun to get interested in caving. but i dont know how to go about learning or starting to do it. are there any good books, dvd's, or websites that i should go to to find more information? or perhaps there is an organization or school i can sign up for? im located in long beach, southern california. any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
