Question:

Cavities, no money and no insurance.?

I have 2 fairly large visible cavities in 2 different teeth, and another small one starting to form at the base of a tooth right at the gum line. They don't really hurt which is good I suppose, I would go to the dentist but I am a broke college student with absolutely NO money and NO insurance. What should I do? Is there anyway to keep them from getting worse, I brush and floss regularly.

  1. If you floss and brush regularly and the cavities are still getting worse then there is nothing more that you can do except to see a dentist. get in touch with your local hospital and find out if there is any way you can be treated free of charge..by a dental student for instance. Then get yourself some insurance, some firms offer a special rate for students and you may be able to find out about these at school.I know its an expense you can ill-afford but it is one you can not afford to do without..and a lot more important than a new pair of jeans or shoes.

  2. you say you're broke young man, but i'm sure you find the money to get drunk a few nights a week...i know what you college guys are like. i rent an apartment to a college guy. now you need to put away that money you spend on beer and put it towards your dental health.

ADD: Apologies for assuming you drink too much...you're definitely in a minority.

Do you have a drug problem perhaps?

Are you being completely honest with us (and yourself)?

    I'm not making any assumptions.

If addictions are not the cause of your poverty then maybe you need to get a job or maybe even two.

There's not much in the way of DIY when it comes to urgent dental care. I wish you luck.

Profound apologies to you sir...now that i have the complete picture, i can see that you find yourself in these difficult circumstances through no fault of your own...in the UK and Ireland we have lousy public dental treatment..i had to pay 6000 euro for my younger brother's dental treatment, either that or he would've had to go on a lenghty waiting list(with no guarantee of treatment)...indeed in some parts of the UK, people have resorted to downing a bottle of JD and extracting their own teeth....

Anyway I'm sure your situation will improve after you graduate, but you need to save those teeth, even if it means getting into more debt. good luck.

  3. I know you don't have insurance ,or a lot of expendable cash, but one option, after you have exhausted any no cost options, would be to get a couple of your college friends who don't have insurance, (up to 20) and sign up for this discount plan. For dental it is $19.95 a month, you all could take turns paying for it. It is not insurance but at lest when you do go to the dentist it could save you money on what you have to pay out, and at least you'd be spending less money. If you get just the dental, it comes with vision, chiropractic and presription discounts plan access, If you are interested in the health one as well it comes with the dental, vision, chiro, prescription, and then physician also for $39.95. You could save up to 80% on your treatment. Up to 20 people in one household could sign up no matter what the relation is, so you might want to think about that while you save up for your visit. WHat ever you do try your best to get it taken care of because the longer you wait the worse of a situation your teeth get into and the more money it will cost to fix.
