Cavy rescue?

When I'm an adult, I want to start a cavy rescue if I have enough money. I've heard a lot of times that it costs a lot of money, though. Maybe it's just a dream that'll never come true. Anyways, what kind of job do you suggest I get when I'm an adult if I want to start a cavy rescue? I was thinking about trying to become a veterinarian, but I'm afraid I'll fail to become one since I've heard it's so hard to get into vet school. Starting a cavy rescue is decades away if I even will start one. I will only do it if I'm positive I have enough money and know what I'm doing.

  1. There are some useful links here http://www.guinealynx.info/forums/viewto...

You probably want to start helping out at another rescue to see how it is first. It is draining and a lot of work and money.

  2. Cavies are really easy to take care of. They do cost a lot and caging has to be proper. They eat a lot of food of all sorts. You do have to be careful with putting cavies together though. Especially males. Some fight some don't. I currently own seven cavies. I started with two males which unknowingly one was female. You have to be very sure of the gender. If they are to be kept in a typical cage you'll need to put some thing around the cage, like chicken wire, if there are pups. Pups are curious and will get out of the cage through the bars. They cost for me to take care of my seven little pigs runs about a little over a hundred dollars a month. Most of the cost is the brand of food I get and litter. You must never ever ever use any litter other than aspen chips and a biodegradable paper like litter. Never use saw dust or other wood litters! They can cause severe health problems and/or suffocate the cavy. As for the occupation I suggest any thing that has to do with animals. As long as you know what you are doing and can get the permits and licenses you should be able to accomplish your dream. If you need any help with any other cavy advice you're free to email me. anonymous_writer_5@yahoo.com

  3. Perhaps being a vet tech would be a better choice, if being a vet seems overwhelming! And the magic words for a Cavy rescue are C&C. If you haven't heard of these cages, they are a godsend!!!
