Cd-rom drive. A friend installed a second hard-drive and shortly afterwards the cd-rom drive

Question

A friend installed a second hard-drive and shortly afterwards the cd-rom drive stopped reading cd's. The cd-rom drive is still read under my computer, I can put cd's in they just won't read for some reason. And sometimes the drive will open and close automatically. I have tried re-installing drivers and nothing works. What should I do
