  1. Sounds like the cd rom driver is missing.  This can be fixed by reinstalling the cd rom with the disk that came with it.  That should be it.  

    If no disk, then go to Control Panel, select Classic View (if not already displayed that way), then double click on System icon.  Select the Hardware tab from the popup that opens, then select the Device Manager button.  Your presented with a list of devices.  Select DVD/CD ROM to see what devices are mounted in your system.  If none are listed, then your cd rom has been uninstalled. If it is listed, right click on its text and select Properties.  There is a place here that allows you to reinstall without a disk.

    Also, look for any item in the list that has a big yellow questionmark to the left of it.  This means that the system sees that device, but it hasen't been installed.  One of these could be your cd rom.  Like above, right click on the text and update the drivers.
