Cebuano all set for the Leopardstown Apprentice Handicap
Competing for the Leopardstown Apprentice Handicap are nine three-year and above runners. The race will be held at Leopardstown over a mile and two furlongs on Thursday, 16th August. All the nine entries are unique in their own way however gaining the most preference is the seven-year-old, Cebuano. He has been pretty consistent since the last three starts and is highly likely to claim the €6,900 prize money.
The chestnut gelding has been active five times during the season and failed miserably in the first two outings. The M. Halford trained lost the races to a ninth and then a seventh position.
The last three outings witnessed Fraam’s gelding improving drastically, scoring second in two races and then finally winning the last one.
The seven-year-old qualified as the runner-up in the Cork Racecourse (C & G) Maiden on 11th May, 2012 at Cork over a mile. The race was won by the favourite entry, Chicago, while Cebuano lost the race by the margin of six lengths.
Settling third behind the winner was, Captain May.
The Paul J. McMahon owned then tried his luck in the Anglo Printers Handicap on 12th July, 2012 at Dundalk over a mile and 2 ½ furlongs. He almost won the race as the only difference between the winner, Circumstances, and the runner-up was that of a nose.
Concluding the race third in row was, Alghanem.
The next race on the horizon was very important because it was not only the seasonal debut victory, but also the very first time that the seven-year-old won a race throughout his career.
The chestnut gelding out of, Ideal Figure, won the Follow Dundalk On Twitter Handicap (Division I) on 16th July, 2012 at Dundalk over a mile and 2 ½ furlongs. Sent as the favourite entry for the race, the seven-year-old did not really pace up by the mid-division and ranked second with the final furlong to go. He won the race by the margin of 1 ¼ lengths.
Settling as the runner-up was, Xsquared, while following right behind was, Whiteside.
The 5 to 1 entry will get paired up with jockey, Marc Monaghan, and the two will race out of the ninth gate.
