Chelsea went on to play host to Barcelona in the first leg of their semi final encounter in the Champions League and went on to win by one goal to nil. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837 has admitted that his side were lucky in the game, but is delighted with the win.
Going into the game hardly anyone expected Chelsea to come out on top, given how well Barcelona had been playing and the fact that they were considered to be the favourites.
During the course of the game, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 had most of the possession, with Chelsea hardly getting their hand on the ball. Despite that fact, the Premier League side made the most of their little possession and went on to score the only goal of the game.
It is too early to say anything, but should Chelsea hold onto their lead in the second leg, they could just go on and make it to the finals of the tournament.
When talking about the game, Cech was quoted to have said: "We can be proud of what we have done today"
"There was amazing quality in the team, everyone gave 100 per cent. We are not used to playing 90 minutes without the ball. Mentally it is difficult to keep the focus"
“We have been brilliant all over the pitch, the commitment to defend and cover everyone, we had a bit of luck but everyone did as they were asked."
The keeper then went on to admit that it wasn’t going to be easy for his side to go on and contain Barcelona with just a one goal advantage, since the team was capable of doing just about anything, when they got their cards right.
"It’s never easy to say 1-0 is an advantage against Barcelona. They are an exceptional side. They will always create something."
Nonetheless, if http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 can manage to deploy the right tactics in their second leg with the Catalans as well, they could potentially go on and do the unthinkable.
It is now going to be a long wait to see just who ends up coming out on top at the end of the second leg and ends up in the final.
