Cecilia Biagioli pockets Women’s 800m freestyle gold medal: Day one – 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy
Cecilia Biagioli of CORINTHIANS/SB/SP pocketed the title of Women’s 800m freestyle event on the foremost day of the 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy on 30 August, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Biagioli demonstrated her stupendous swimming skills in front of the arena to capture the title of sixteen-lap freestyle swim. She remained in a comfortable lead over her closest competitor and occupied the title of the event, by submitting a time of 8 minutes
and 47.14 seconds. With her astonishing effort, she remained nearly 33 seconds away from Rebecca Adlington’s world mark of 8 minutes and 14.10 seconds, set by her at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Nevertheless, the champion maintained a lead of 2.37 seconds over her following rival, Joanna Maranhao of CRF/RJ, who appeared on the podium for silver medal by reporting in a time of 8 minutes and 49.51 seconds. Maranhao was trailed by Poliana Okimoto of
CORINTHIANS/S.BERNAR, who remained only 0.60 seconds slower than the silver medallist and stepped on the podium for bronze medal by posting a nice time of 8 minutes and 50.11 seconds.
Argentina’s Biagioli has the honour of representing her country at the South American Games of 2006 and 2010. The 26-year-old Biagioli claimed the gold medals of 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle and the 4*200m freestyle relay at the 2006 Games, while she also
earned the gold medal of 200m freestyle at the 2010 South American Games.
Nonetheless, the podium finishers were chased by Ana Marcela De Jesus Da Cunha of Unisanta, who stayed 9.09 seconds away from the third position holder and ended her swim in a fourth finest time of 8 minutes and 59.20 seconds. Da Cunha was followed by Julia
Benvenutti Gerotto of FIAT/MINAS, who remained 1.52 seconds behind her former swimmer and ended up fifth by clocking a time of 9 minutes and 00.72 seconds.
In the meantime, Betina Lorscheitter of CORINTHIANS/S.BERNAR was sighted as the sixth fastest swimmer of the race, as she completed her race in a time of 9 minutes and 01.62 seconds. Eloisa Arcuri Bassani of GNU/RS was the seventh finest swimmer of the distant
freestyle swim, as she remained only 0.30 seconds behind Lorscheitter and posted a time of 9 minutes and 01.92 seconds.
Finally, Carolina Bilich of FIAT/MINAS surfaced as the eighth position holder of the event, as she was only 1.01 seconds slower and produced a time of 9 minutes and 02.93 seconds.
In addition, the session ended after the conclusion of first day events, while the championship will continue for five more days to complete all swimming meets in Men’s and Women’s category.
