Cecilia Biagioli wins Women’s 1500m freestyle crown: Day six – 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy
Day six of the 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy got off to a sizzling start with the exciting splash of Argentina’s swimmer, Cecilia Biagioli in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on Sunday, September 4. The final session of the meet conducted the Women’s 1500m freestyle race.
In the corresponding swim, Biagioli hit the wall in 16 minutes and 46.68 seconds to win the gold medal. More importantly, Biagioli beat Poliana Okimoto’s previous meet record of 16 minutes and 58.17 seconds, set back in the 2007 edition of the competition.
After the race, Cecilia was pleased with her individual splash. She won three gold medals in the Women’s 200m, 400m and 4x200m freestyle finals respectively, at the 2006 South African Games in Buenos Aries.
Okimoto Poliana secured silver medal on the podium by posting a winning time of 17 minutes and 00.56 seconds. Ana Da Cunha took home the bronze medal of the platform by submitting an impressive time of 17 minutes and 11.13 seconds.
In the corresponding race, Bilich Carolina was placed fourth with a mark of 17 minutes and 18.26 seconds. Meanwhile, Rocha Gabriela rounded out the top five in a time of 17 minutes and 22.89 seconds and Correa Sarah wound up sixth after she touched the finishing
wall and ended her swim with a mark of 17 minutes and 37.59 seconds.
Veronez Jessica was placed seventh in a time of 17 minutes and 41.21 seconds, while Arnold Djenyfer earned eighth place honours with a mark of 17 minutes and 43.67 seconds. Farias Carolina settled for ninth position with a time of 17 minutes and 43.76 seconds.
Ferreira Maria was placed tenth in the respective meet with a time of 17 minutes and 44.48 seconds. Last, but not the least, Perez Avelino Monick earned eleventh place honours after she touched the finishing blockade and ended her swim in a time of 17 minutes
and 46.61 seconds.
The arena gave a huge round of applause to all contestants of the meet, while the winners were awarded medals and accolades after the session’s completion.
