Cecilie Johannessen tops Women’s 100m freestyle relay: Day four – Norway Long Course Championships
Day four of the Norway Long Course Championships saw the impressive performance of Cecilie Johannessen in the Women’s 100m freestyle relay meet in Drammen, Norway, on Tuesday, July 12.
In another event, Gard Kvale earned the gold medal in the Men’s 800m freestyle relay category.
Johannessen came out briskly from the starting blocks and grabbed victory in the Women’s 100m freestyle meet, after she completed her distance in a time of 55.99 seconds. More importantly, Johannessen beat Vibeke Johansen’s previous record of 56.06 seconds,
set back in 1996.
Henriette Brekke earned the second place honours in a time of 56.78 seconds, whereas, Susann Bjornsen rounded out the top three swimmers in 56.92 seconds.
Earlier, Cecilie Johannessen won the Women’s 50m freestyle race in a time of 25.96 seconds, while Susann Bjornsen wound up second in 26.30 seconds. Henriette Brekke was placed third on the podium with a time of 26.43 seconds.
She also secured the gold medal in the Women’s 800m freestyle relay final in 8 minutes and 54.08 seconds. Elin Slaatmo wound up second in 8 minutes and 55.83 seconds, while Lise Sand Syversen settled third in a time of 9 minutes and 04.88 seconds.
Johannessen was and jubilant with her individual performances in the championship, as she secured three stunning victorious in the Women’s 50m, 100m and 800m freestyle events.
In the Men’s 800m freestyle relay event, Gard Kvale nabbed the gold medal by completing his distance in a time of 8 minutes and 26.79 seconds. Morten Bordervich earned silver title in 8 minutes and 27.86 seconds, whereas, Oscar Slaatmo grabbed bronze in
a time of 8 minutes and 27.90 seconds. After securing the gold medal in the 800m freestyle meet, Kvale was really excited with his effort in the event.
The Norway Long Course Championships is an opportunity for both young and senior level swimmers of the nation, to prepare themselves well for the upcoming FINA World Championships in China. The 2011 FINA World Championships is set to be held in Shanghai,
from July 16-31.
