Cedric Carrasso signs new deal with FC Girondins de Bordeaux – French Ligue 1 news
Girondins de Bordeaux goalkeeper, Cedric Carrasso, has signed a new deal with the club. According to reports, the Frenchman has inked down a two-year extension to his current contract which would keep him at Stade Chaban Delmas until the
summer of 2015. The new extension comes in as a reward for the 29-year-old who was in fine form for the club amidst a difficult campaign that saw Bordeaux finish seventh in Ligue 1 standings.
After winning La Championnat in the 2008/09 season, Bordeaux suffered this term but Carrasso did enough to impress Les Girondins board of directors into offering him a new and improved contract. A series of fine displays for his side alerted many Ligue 1
and European clubs. Bordeaux have acted swiftly by offering him a new deal in order to keep possible suitors away from the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 shot-stopper. Carrasso signed for Bordeaux from fellow Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse in the summer of 2009. Since
his arrival, he has become a reliable presence between the poles for Bordeaux.
This season, Carrasso also showed his fine leadership qualities, another reason why Bordeaux tied down the player for a few more seasons. The Avignon-born Frenchman was only 18 years of age when Rhone giants, Olympique de Marseille, signed him in the summer
of 1999. However, the young Carrasso could not break into the first team and was loaned out on two different occasions. The first loan move happened in 2001 when he joined English side Crystal Palace where he played just one game. In 2004, Cedric Carrasso
was farmed out to Guingamp for a year where he made 26 appearances.
In April, 2005, French Football Federation banned the then Marseille first-choice keeper, Fabien Barthez, for six months after the 1998 FIFA World Cup winner was reported for spitting on a referee during a friendly game against Moroccan giants, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wydad-Casablanca-c40959.
This gave Carrasso a great opportunity to cement his place as first-choice keeper at OM. However, Carrasso left the club in 2008 after making 59 appearances.
