Ceiling Kitty claims Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot
Ceiling Kitty was a surprise winner on the second day of Royal Ascot Meeting. Tom Dascombe’s 2-year-old maintained the highest standards of speed and stamina right through the event, grabbing the top place with ease in the Queen Mary Stakes, held on Wednesday,
June 20th.
Under Richard Kingscote, the novice could not establish her supremacy in the beginning. Nonetheless, she did not lose her determination and kept improving her work. After chasing the leaders in the middle hours, she shifted her gears in great fashion, putting
her rivals under tremendous pressure.
Although Hoyam kept disturbing her in the final stages of the race, it was never possible for her to seal the top rank. As a result, she missed the glory by a length’s distance.
Ceiling Kitty’s victory would have been a shocking outcome for many bookmakers. The daughter of Red Clubs, who was given the odds of 20 to 1, stunned everyone with an excellent effort, not letting the opposition spoil her party.
Hoyam ran on strongly inside the final furlong and despite the fact that the Michael Bell-trained failed to trouble the champion, she did a fantastic job to seize the runner-up place by a length’s distance.
It was very close contest for the third position, as Hairy Rocket and Upward Spiral ran neck-to-neck for a while. After a thrilling contest, Richard Hannon’s charge managed to end up among top-3 by ½ a length. Jadanna completed the list of top-5. The 5-1
favourite, Mironica, failed to live up to the expectations and as a result, finished 15th on the chart.
Dascombe said: "It's great not just for me but for Andrew Black (owner) who bred her as well. Richard Kingscote was fantastic. He didn't exactly pick her, she was picked for him, but he was pretty confident. She's as hard as nails.”
He continued: "The other filly (Upward Spiral) has run brilliant it's just that there was nothing fast enough this side to lead her. I think Upward Spiral is the better horse but just not today. This is all about Andrew Black, he's been an amazing support
to me and to get a winner here for him is amazing."
