My ceiling fan (the lights)in my bedroom turns on by itself. I will wake up at two am and the lights are blazing. I will go upstairs in the afternoon and the light are on. Once while I was lying there staring at the fan they went on then off. That really freaked me out. Is there a mechanical reason for this? I have looked all over the web for this problem and I can find no answer.

Oh, and it isn't consistent. It will happen 2-3 time in day or so and then not for weeks.

One more thing, it is a hampton bay with remote control.

  1. Something near by is triggering the remote on your fan. I'm not sure if you can change the code or not.....I would check with Lowe's or Home Depot guys to see if there is a way to change remote code.

Nothing to worry about as far as electrical short. It could be some trucker talking on the radio when he passes your house...or even someones garage door opener....or maybe the neighbor living closest to you has a Hampton fan...check with them...they may be having the same problem when you turn on your lights...and it's freaking them out....ha ha ha
