our ceiling fan and light in our bedroom has stopped working. when you flip the switch the lights come on and the fan starts to move but it only lasts for a second. if you flip the switch off and then back on it does the same thing. the light was flickering a little a few days ago but it stoppped so i didnt really think anything of it. anybody have any idea what the problem is? think its the fan/light or the wiring? should i be worried about my house catching fire if its bad wiring?

  1. Congratulations on the coming baby!

Sound as the wiring is making a poor contact. The wire nuts need to be tightened. Just turn it off til someone checks and corrects the connections.

  2. Chances are you probably have loose wireing. Be verry carefull before trying this your self you need to have the power turned off at the breaker. The wireing could have a continious curcit to one of your outlets causing you to get shocked if you just turn off the light switch. you can buy a tester that tells you if the power is turned off by puting it close to one of the hot wires (or as an example an extention cord). It will beep untill there is no power. Do not try this if you do not feel comfortable around electricity.

  3. Could be a bad wall light switch. If the switch moves real easy compared to others in the house it`s probably defective.

  4. I think that one of the wires may have come loose somehow. If that is the case, then it is a potential fire hazard! Try not to use it until you can get an electrician to look into it!
