No, they really don't use that much energy. I never shut off the ceiling fans in my dining room or my bedroom, and my electric bill is less than $30 a month.  I have two cats so I think it's important to keep the air circulating in the house for them.

yes, try switching all electrical appliances off at night and you will see the difference in your bill.

ceiling fans only serve to push the hot air down and make the heat worse. to keep a room cool at night - close the curtains/ blinds during the day and open them at night.
