Ceiling lights no longer work!!!?

Question

After heading up to the attic and moving a heap of boxes around, the ceiling lights in the two bedrooms below where I was doing all the moving, have stopped working altogther!

I switched mains power off and then had a look at the wires and nothing seems to have been pulled out or is hanging loose, I've changed the bulbs too and that made no difference either!

Can anyone advise?

Check all the connections

Check the fuse-box

Change the bulbs

You have to look inside the connection boxes not just look at them and say that looks alright.

Get a mate who's good at DIY to have a look for you and if possible when working on electrics there should be two of you present anyway in case one gets a shock and is in need of first aid.

You say you switched off the main, but did you check the individual breaker for those rooms? Might have tripped one of those. If you look at the breaker and you see an orange looking dot in the middle, tha'ts tripped. You have to turn it off, then back on to reset it.

If that's not it, look more closely at your wiring, because you knocked a connection loose somewhere, I would say. Sometimes all it takes is a little bump, if the connection wasn't all that good to begin with.

Take apart the connections.Clean them up and put new connectors on them.

If I were you, then I would check each power and plug point to see if the electric power is coming to each of the light bulb units? If not ,I will next find out how far it is coming using a meter in the electrical connection points.

But, if you are not sure or uncomfortable in doing this or unsure how to do this test.... Then, next step is to call a friend or electrician who can do this for you.

youve probably got what is called a dry connection,turn off power,clean connections to light in attic,then put back.

IF THERE ARE NO JOINT BOXES IN YOUR ATTIC,UNDO YOUR CEILING ROSES AND CHECK THEM.IT IS MOST PROBABLE YOU HAVE CAUGHT A CABLE AND PULLED IT OUT OF ITS CONNECTION.TWO LIGHTS ARE OUT BECAUSE LIGHTING CIRCUITS ARE WIRED IN A CHAIN,THEY ARE WIRED FROM THE MAINS BOARD AND LINK FROM ONE LIGHT TO ANOTHER,THEY DONT GO BACK TO THE MAINS BOARD.
