Ceiling speaker connections?

I understand that ceiling speakers require a speaker cable, that connect to a receiver. When there are over 30 speakers on the ceiling, how could there only be like one or two speaker cables going into the receiver? Are they combined to one speaker cable, or how does it work? I never understood this.

  1. What you have is a commercial 70 volt system.  70 volt systems use a special commercial 70 volt amplifier that can feed many 70 volt speakers.  All the speakers are connected in parallel (see figure 2 on this page):
