Celebrating 20 Years Of McLaren F1
Of course, that called for a celebration! McLaren drives through the 20 years of its class and elegance. May, 26th marked the 20th anniversary of the McLaren Automotive celebrated with rightly justified style and flair. McLaren Technology Centre in Woking at England was the decided venue of the party.
The program started by honoring all the past and present owners of the McLaren F1 at a dinner party at the Centre. To show gratitude to the owners, 21 McLaren F1 road and race cars, were shown in a magnificent display, the first time ever such a huge number of these cars gathered at one place.
The first sports car ever presented to the sports world by McLaren was the McLaren F1. In the year 1988, McLaren decided to expand from the Formula One and present the world with the finest sports car ever. Since then the journey of speed and technology has never stopped by them.
It took another two years after they had decided to take the race to a whole new horizon. In March 1990, the first ever especially designed car was created by the team ready to go on the track and begin an unending war of competing teams and manufacturers.
It took just another couple of year and on May 28th, 1992 the McLaren F1 road car came to Monaco for the first time. It was only the following year when the first production of the car was delivered to its owner.
The manufacture of the MP4-12C, has taken McLaren Automotive to the heights that it had always claimed to be its possession. Even after reaching at this apex the brand reserves all reverence for its original icon, the McLaren F1, rejoicing and celebrating the 20 years of its most popular nameplate.
McLaren’s invitation to all the owners of the F1 at the present or that had been in the past has really made the celebration huger. Many of the owners brought their own McLaren F1 cars with them to the grand dinner at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, England.
The total number of cars present at the diner party actually counted as one fifth of the total number of McLaren F1s that have ever been built. Having 21 McLaren F1s under one roof turned the event an extravagant show, being the first time ever to have such a large number of the F1 cars ever brought together.
McLaren Automotive Executive Chairman, Ron Dennis, told that the F1 was actually a tour-de-force technologically and its packaging and design was a real success for the car. He mentioned that it was supremely fast, comfortable and real swift at reacting whether it is moving on the racing track or on the road. He added that its style is rich and elegant that is going to last forever. He was pleased declaring F1 As the proudest endeavour of McLaren. Talking about the craze and affection that people hold for this car he said that he still enjoyed driving his F1 more than any he had ever driven and the thrill keeps on mounting every year because he thought that its technical purity is highly satisfying and unmatched.
Even today McLaren stands as the world’s fastest road car producer and has held firmly its status as being the only manufacturer to embrace successfully the Formula 1 World Championship along with the Indianapolis 500 and the Le Mans 24 Hours Championships for manufacturers.
Between 1993 and 1997 a total six variants of the McLaren F1 were made for both the race track as well as the road. And all are loved and regarded by the car lovers equally.
