Question:

Celebrating a Birthday in Bangkok

Hi,

I'm leaving August 19th-September 12th for Thailand.

I will be meeting my fiancee in Bangkok on the 25th to start his R&R leave from Iraq. I need to figure out a way to celebrate his 30th birthday. I have never been to SE Asia, so I have no idea what to expect. Any ideas? I want to spend a whole day doing fun and romantic things. Maybe someone who knows the area will have some suggestions. Thanks!

  1. Depending on your hotel, take him to the spa or have a massage in the hotel or in your hotel room.  If your hotel does not have massage, find one close to your hotel.

Most are reasonable and since business is bad check for their specials online.  it will take some research.

Then for dinner you can take him to maybe the sirocco restaurant on top of the State Building in Bangkok

Very nice, food is good I hear, expensive for Thailand but, the scenery may be worth it.  I have been the bar, Distil, below it, 2 floors and the Restaurant Mezzaluna which is very nice and indoors.

Make reservations online in advance if you can.

You can also have dinner on the Chao Phaya river also

Find out what he prefers.  There is alot to Bangok.

    Good luck

  2. how about having dinner at river side restaurants http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Down%2... ?

  3. If it's your first time to Bangkok you should definitely go see the temple complex at Wat Pra Kaew (bring pants) it's really spectacular.

Okay, then while you're in the area you can take a tour on river on one of the many touring boats. (The river and the docks are close to the temple complex). You can even bring along your own food and have a romantic picnic on the water. Make sure you bargain with the company offering the tour so you get a good price.

For a romantic dinner there's some pretty good restaurants with some amazing views of the city. I'll include a link.

If that's not your thing you can check out one of the beer gardens. (again link included). It's a more laid back atmosphere and they have live entertainment. It's really fun.

As far as night life goes, there's tons options. There's pubs, night clubs, and this might sound odd but Karaoke. Keep in mind karaoke is different there than it is here. There you can get single room with the karaoke set-up just for the two of you. You can have fun singing to each other and nobody but you two can hear you. (you can also order food and beer.)

There's also a ton of night markets you can go strolling through.

Pick up a Lonely Planet Thailand. It's great a great resource with tons of ideas.

Anyway, good luck and thanks to your fiancee for his services.
