Celebrations take centre stage in Israel on completion of 80th year – Volleyball news
It has been 80 years that the thrilling sport of volleyball was introduced in Israel. In order to celebrate 80 years of volleyball, the Israeli Volleyball Association organised a special sports gala on Wednesday.
The busy Harbour of Tel Aviv hosted the colourful ceremony, which was attended by a large number of players, referees, coaches, and quite many of the volleyball lovers. Some of the participants of the re-union had combined all these positions in their careers.
The President of the Israeli Volleyball Association, Jacob Shtofman, officially opened the celebration ceremony. He welcomed all the participants of the ceremony and made a speech, which had a complimentary message from the President of International Volleyball
Federation Jizhong Wei. He briefly described the history of volleyball in Israel and summed up how the amazing sport of volleyball progressed and flourished in the country. He especially mentioned the establishment of Youth Volleyball Academy, which played
a big role in the growth of next generation players during all these years.
The president gave credit to the first national teams, which had to go through a lot tough phases in the early years. He also praised the great efforts of Micha Shamban, who was involved in the creation of those teams. In acknowledgement of his terrific
work, the Israeli Volleyball Association presented a life-time achievement award to the Shamban. The second generation of players of the Youth Volleyball Academy handed over the award to the great volleyball mentor.
The organisers of the celebration ceremony installed a special 3-D screen that showed different presentations about volleyball development in the Israel. Moreover, the players and coaches of the various generations took advantage of the opportunity and shared
their memories regarding their successful game ventures.
The President of Israeli Olympic Committee, Mr. Zvi Varshaviak along with other top officials of the committee attended the ceremony.
Moreover, the Head of the Sports Commission, Dr. Shefer, and the most decorated Israeli Volleyball coach Dr. Arie Selinger were also in attendance. The colourful activity was closed in the evening on a very happy note.
