Does anyone have any ideas as to what Ogden Nash was trying to portray in this poem?

Celery by Ogden Nash

Celery, raw

Develops the jaw,

But celery, stewed,

Is more quietly chewed.

  1. To me; that things can change in substance, with time.

  2. Aaahhh, that if you cook your veggies, they're not so hard to chew!  I'd be interested to see if anyone else gets more out of it's simplicity!

  3. Well it could be two things:

It could mean that people who are...for lack of better word, "fresh" are more likely to rebel, but the worn down people are easier to win against.

Or it could just mean that celery, raw, develops the jaw, but celery stewed is more quietly chewed    ;]
