Celestial Kitten to go through a mild work out ahead of the Del Mar Oaks on 20 August
Southern California, Del Mar.- The 3-year-old Ben Cecil trained filly, Celestial Kitten, had been going through some tough routines and hectic workout sessions for a few tiring weeks in the middle of July and on top of that the filly got purchased and got
shipped from Upstate New York to down south Del Mar.
With all the rigors of the travel Celestial Kitten had to run in the Grade 2 San Clemente Handicap where she finished third out of the lot.
Now, trainer Ben Cecil has realised the tough times recently his filly has gone through and he is keeping an easy schedule for the filly ahead of the Del Mar Oaks with the purse of $250,000.
All things considered, the daughter of Kitten’s Joy kept the form alive and she ran well in the Grade 2 San Clemente Handicap, especially being bought out and shipped right after a week.
There is no particular plan for Celestial Kitten by the trainer Ben Cecil, and he is planning to give the filly space and time to rest, while she just gallops and prepares herself for the 20 August event, the Del Mar Oaks to be run on grass over at a distance
of 1 1/8 miles.
Out of Heavenly Glory by Honour And Glory, Celestial Kitten has returned to her trainer looking very skinny, so there is no point it burning more calories since she already looks in shape, and her current condition doesn’t call for something extra right
before the Del Mar run.
Ben Cecil further said that the distance of the Del Mar Oaks which 1 1/8 miles, should suit the filly, he said that he wants his filly to finish on the money but winning the race would be nice as well.
The top contenders for the Del Mar Oaks, and the runners who would be challenging Celestial Kitten for the Del Mar title will include Cambina and Nereid, who were involved in an intriguing battle in the American Oaks last month which ended in a dead heat.
