Celina Li pockets Women’s 200 yards IM gold – AT&T Winter National Championships
Celina Li of PLS-PC pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 200 yards Individual Medley (IM) on day one of the 2012 AT&T Winter National Championships in Austin, TX, USA on Thursday, November 29.
Li spoiled the party of her opponents in the eight-lap discipline as she proved her eligibility for the title. With her impeccable pace from the start, Li managed to upset her closest swimmer over the finishing end for the crown.
Li remained just an inch ahead of her toughest challenger and touched the wall for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 55.28 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Stina Gardell of USC-CA, who stayed 0.04 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 55.32 seconds.
Third position of the race was obtained by Melissa Franklin of STARCO, who stayed 0.56 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 55.88 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Jessica Schmitt of USC-CA, who stayed 0.61 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall for fourth place with an effort of 1 minute and 56.49 seconds.
Schmitt was traced by Meghan Hawthorne of USC-CA, who suffered a loss of 0.11 seconds from her foregoing finisher and hit the finishing end for fifth position by producing a time of 1 minute and 56.60 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Jasmine Tosky of USC-CA, who stayed 0.07 seconds slower from her former finisher and clocked a time of 1 minute and 56.67 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Andrea Kropp of USC-CA, who was 0.63 seconds apart and ended her race in a time of 1 minute and 57.30 seconds.
Kropp was traced by Anna Senko of UCLACA, who stayed 2.20 seconds slower and posted a time of 1 minute and 59.50 seconds.
Furthermore, Li was happy with her top finish and stressed that she would continue her hard work in order to achieve the same at forthcoming events.
