Celine Bertrand and Louise Hansson capture swimming titles: Swedish Junior SC Swimming Championships
Celine Bertrand and Louise Hansson met expectations of their fans by capturing gold medals of Women’s 200m freestyle and 50m butterfly respectively at the 2012 Swedish Junior Short Course (SC) Swimming Championships in Valby, Sweden on Sunday, January 29.
The session ended after the final rounds of 200m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 200m Individual Medley (IM) in Men and Women’s category.
Bertrand devastated hopes of her competitors in the Women’s 200m freestyle event. She outsmarted her competitors with a considerable distance and cemented her place on the victory stand for gold medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 59.03 seconds.
She was followed by Elsa Ericsson, who remained nearly half body length behind her and completed her swim in a time of 1 minute and 59.76 seconds for silver medal. Ericsson stayed in a prominent lead over her subsequent competitor, Vilma Ekstrom, who occupied
third fastest spot of the race with a timing of 2 minutes and 02.59 seconds.
Moments later, the spectators witnessed a breathtaking performance of Hansson in the Women’s 50m butterfly. She not only seized the title of the 50m event but also improved the championship mark by producing a time of 25.95 seconds.
Her effort was trailed by My Fridell, who remained 1.27 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and appeared on the finishing wall for second fastest spot by clocking a time of 27.22 seconds. Fridell was followed by Miranda Bannsgard as she remained 0.37
seconds slower and concluded her swim in a time of 27.59 seconds for bronze medal.
Subsequently, the audience experienced commendable efforts of Sarah Sjostrom in the Women’s 200m IM. Sjostrom thrashed senior record of the discipline by completing her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 08.17 seconds.
With her indispensable struggle, she remained almost six seconds ahead of her closest rival, Celine Bertrand, who secured second position of the event by touching the wall in a time of 2 minutes and 14.78 seconds. The third position of the event was earned
by Nadja Salomonsson, who remained 0.31 seconds slower from her former finisher and reached the medal rostrum for bronze medal by posting 2 minutes and 15.09 seconds on the bulletin board.
In the meantime, Alexander Linge grabbed gold medal of the Men’s equivalent event. Linge showered his expertise in the distant IM discipline and hit the wall with timing of 1 minute and 59.79 seconds. He was chased by Viktor Bjork and Eric Smedlund, who
earned second and third fastest spot by hitting the finishing end with timings of 2:01.43 and 2:02.66 minutes, respectively.
In addition, the championship concluded after the wonderful efforts of all participants whereas the winners received accolades after the completion of session.
