I got mine at 12
and I think it is a responibl age
and I would not get them anything fancy
just like the lg cosmos wich is with verizon wireless
or the smasung gravity or samsung gravity 2 wich is with t-moble but if you live in the mountans then t-moble SUCKS
just like a phone with a slide out key bord
nothing fancy
