Cell Phone Rental/Purchase Uruguay?

Question

Does anyone know if it's possible to rent a cell phone in Uruguay (I don't want to rent one stateside because I'm not going directly there and back)?

If not then what is the easiest and/or cheapest way to buy a phone that will allow me to make local calls; receive incoming calls -preferably for free; and also make international calls (in case of emergency). I will be there for two weeks, so I'm guessing I need some kind of pay as you go service.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try ALTEL Cell Phone Rentals. They are based in the USA however have offices in South America. You can rent the phone here and then return it to one of their offices in Uruguay. Their number is (800 768-9936.
