Question:

Cell Phone help for sibling

Ok. so a few months ago, my brother got an old beat up cellphone to use in case of emergencies. (we had the extra line anyways) he has issues with keeping track of time, and always telling us where he is, so they figured a cellphone could help. he was told not to text and to only call me or my parents. Well, my brother got caught deleting texts and we found out he racked up a 40.00 bill for cell phone ring tone services.

Is there a way he can still have a phone and not be able to text? we can't just turn of his text abilities without turning off every phone.

btw he is 9.

  1. get rid of that phone and get him a tracfone.

one of the 30 and under phones..

    those can't get ringtones.

    or go on internet.

buy him the one year card.

and tell him thats all he gets from the parents.

if he wants, he can take his own money and buy more.

also, it shows how many minutes are left. so your parents can match up every call he made to them and for how long. to every minute thats missing.

  2. so your parents need to take the internet browser off and take texting off the plan and it will be ok

  3. I had to do the same thing with my boyfriend. I turned off the internet by calling the company and got an unlimited text option for $9 a month. $9 a month isn't bad after paying $100 in text messages for one moth. Turning off the internet keeps them from buying anything or getting pictures which can cost a lot of money. You can probably ask the company to block the text message option also.

  4. So what is the issue?  Your parent's plan does not allow for texting to be removed from only one phone.  There is nothing that can be done.  This is the plan they chose.  All they can do is cancel the plan if they are able to do so, some plans require you to keep the plan for a certain amount of time or you will be required to pay a early cancellation fee.  All of this should have been looked into prior to signing up for the plan.  All your parents can do is pay the texting fee and then make your brother work it off.   Obviously your brother shouldn't have a cellphone since he is so irresponsible.  If he can't be responsible with being home ontime or letting anyone know where he is then he shouldn't be allowed to go anywhere.

  5. depends on the service.  Mobile allows parents to give kids certain minutes or texting or cut back on it.

There are also prepaid phone for kids that only call certain numbers

  6. i agree with most of the people but for the ringtone thing normally if yousend them a text saying STOP they do

or your parents could charge him the money he spends

  7. I dont think  a 9 year old really needs a cell phone, but oh well anyhow..... i would drop his line and get him a trac phone if i felt he absolutely had to have a cell. then you put on it what you want him to spend and when its gone its gone.theres no worry about bills, and he can still text at .3 units per text.

  8. i racked up a 400 dollar bill texting i had to get unlimited. i think that you should get him one that can only program 5 numbers (you, mom, mom work, dad, dads work) thats called a firefly and it cant do anything else besides that and emergencie numbers

  9. take away his phone

  10. yes you can! all you have to do is call the cell phone provider company and tell them you don't want text enabled anymore and they will be able to turn it off. good luck!

  11. Make him pay for it. That would teach him! Or call your phone company, and they should be able to turn the texting off for just his phone.

  12. get him a pre  paid phone that way when his minutes are out they are out and mom and dad have control over how much is spent monthly and can have him do chores to earn extra phone minutes you can buy as little as $10.00 a month which is like 30 minutes I think

  13. that's strange...my sister and i have Verizon...she has texting abilities, but i do not...so, if you have Verizon i believe that it is possible to take texting off one phone, but not all
