Cell Phone in Europe?

I am going to Italy and I was wondering if my VX8550 chocolate phone will work in Italy for texting and if so, how much would it cost per text?

Sorry but the phone will not work. Your Verizon phone is CDMA technology and operates on the Verizon CDMA network. CDMA is mainly used in North America, the rest of the world is GSM

Europe uses GSM (same as t-mobile and ATT in America)

If you want to use a phone in Italy, your best bet would be to purchase a cheap UNLOCKED quadband GSM phone, when in Italy, purchase a Pay As You Go italian sim card, you will then be able to text and call
