Cell phone coverage from L.A. to Frisco?

Might be making this drive alot. My choices are at&t and verizon. I've used other providers and these two are definitely the best. Coverage maps for both show that there's pretty solid coverage from both carriers. But let's be honest, those coverage maps aren't always accurate. I'd prefer info from those who've traveled this way recently, but any relevant advice on this is appreciated. Thank you!

I have T-Mobile, and on my trips from LA to SF and Tucson, the coverage is pretty good, no roam charges or anything like that. Most companies'  area of coverage in California is from California, Arizona and parts of Nevada .

If they are both solid in coverage, I would go with whatever phone is going to be the most beneficial to you. Here's a coverage map just in case:
