So i have a phone, its six months old now and it is broken. It just wouldn't turn on. So I take it in to be repaired, the guy looks at it for about 20 seconds and tells me its water damage and its not fixable and he can't send it for repair. Now this is complete BS, i've never had this phone near water, and it spent most of its life in my locker at work. Is there anything I can do? I paid for the extended warranty and i don't want to pay $400 to end the contract, or buy a new phone.

  1. If you have the extended warranty, then call the number listed on the warranty.  The clerk at the phone store is just a flunkie really.  It is not their responsibility to fix it if it is water damage normally, but if you purchased the expended warranty, then it is their responsibility.

If they tell you to take it to a store, then ask the clerk for his tech credentials, to show how he is qualified to judge that it is water damage.  If he cannot produce them, then make him send it away for a better assesment.

My phone company at least will take it and tell you that if they find that it is something that I would be at fault for, then I will have to pay for the repairs or the replacement.

  2. Find the water mark indicator, is usually white when is not in contact with water and pink when it is. Try to change it for something similar to it. It is very small usually underneath the battery. Buy your self a bag of rice and submerge your cell phone in it for two days this will dry it out completely so they can't say its water damaged. Now don't visit the store call them and when they ask for the water indicator mark... swear that is white.

Wait for a warranty replacement in just days...

PS - No joke about the bag of uncooked rice, this is for anyone that has submerged their cell phone or any electronic device in water. Just leave it to dry for a day outside under the sun and then put it in the bag of rice for couple of days, you might me able to salvage our water damaged device.

  3. I would try going to a different store, and then asking there. Other than that, you would have to negotiate a deal with your cell phone company to get a new cell phone, or you could buy a cheap one off of Ebay. You might be able to get a good deal if you sign a new 2 year contract, though.

  4. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.... I hear this all the time people complaining on companies trying to rip them off and not honoring their contracts

Just complain enough and go further then the store go directly to the cellular provider your use and complain to them and eventually you will get a new phone
