Cell phone/phone question?

I live in Abbotsford and my friend lives in kamloops (bout 3hours away), on my cell phone would i have to dial 1-250 first to call him

would i ahve to do teh same for someone that lives one province away from me

  1. Yes, if it is a toll call normally, you dial the exact same way on a cell phone OK


  2. It works exactly the same way.

    If you are calling from one province to another it will always be long distance.  There are however, special plans that allow for calling within Canada at a cheaper rate.  You will have to research whether or not your cellphone provider offers these types of plans.

    Specifically, long distance on a cellphone works like this:

    If you are calling out of your designated calling area you will be charged LD rates.

    If you are visiting an area outside your designated calling area you can call anyone within the are visited and it will not incur any LD charges.

    If you answer your phone while visiting an area outside your designated calling area you will be charged additional LD rates.  (it is better to screen your calls and call them back so it is affordable to both parties).
