Question:

Cell phone termination fee in CALIFORNIA?

So I have been trying to end my two year contract with AT&T for a while and have been completely unsuccessful. I can not afford to pay the outrageous fee of $175 to get out of contract just to pay hundreds of dollars more to sign up with T-Mobile and to buy my Sidekick. So I went into T-mobile yesterday and started asking the guy who worked there if it was possible to get out of my AT&T contract. And he started saying some crazy stuff about how a judge recently ruled that cell phone cancellation fees are now illegal in California. What? I didn't believe him. So I sat down and googled it. Sure enough, these fees ARE illegal. But most of the talk is only about Sprint. So I'm wondering: are these fees illegal for AT&T too? Or only Sprint?

Thank you all so much for your help!
