Question:

Cello finger exercise techniques for advanced player?

I've been playing cello for about 7 years yet for the summer I've been getting a bit rusty and my fingers don't move as fast. I love playing fast pieces, but my fingers can't keep up. I know there are method books out there, but there are so many. Any suggestions? I'm looking for something pretty comprehensive to help with agility, speed, positions, etc. Thanks!

  1. the best way is to just play an easy piece as fast as you can over and over thats how i got up to speed on the drums when i quit for the summer but im not sure if it is the same for fingers as it is hands and wrist maby though give it a try and tell me what happens

  2. Start playing the piece fairly slowly and then just keep increasing the speed as able. Also, doing scales with the acceleration pattern (quarters, eighths, triplets, sixteenths, etc) helps build your speed up, too.

  3. my dad played a lot jsut type it in and you will find some thing trust me

  4. In all honesty, I don't use method books. I practice scales and broken thirds and arpgeggios with the metronome in increasing increments along with rhythmic variations. I would also practice the piece with add-a-note, metronome, and rhythmic variation. Also, once a day, play it fast without stopping no matter how bad it sounds. If you want me to expound on any of these methods just e-mail me.
