Ok..I need help. The G string on my cello has always given me issues. I have the hardest time getting a clear loud sound out of it. I get good sound out of every other string, including the C string. When I play the G string my bow always hits the C and D strings, and when I look down there is almost no room between the D and C strings and my bow? Help!

  1. Maybe you should tighten the strings, if there not tight enough, the will be loose and shakey and probably start touch each other like your did. But if you haven't been playing the cello to long, have a music teacher, or someone how knows what they're doing to help you or broke could brake the string. If you rent the cello, bring it back to the store and ask for them to exchange it for another one, or if they can try to fix it.

  2. It sounds like you have a bridge problem (the part that the strings go over before anchoring to the body).  You either don't have enough of an arch or the bridge isn't set up correctly.

I would take it back to the shop you got it from and ask for 1) a repair or 2) a replacement.  Seeing as you didn't replace the bridge, they should fix your problem for you.

If it is an old cello that was given to you, you can get a new bridge and bridge set up by a luthier for around $40.
